Thursday Thoughts

Tomorrow is a PD Day staff for all teachers and students will enjoy a day off!  We have lots of info to share today, so please consider these upcoming events at St. Mary’s:

St.Mary’s leadership class is hosting a Halloween dance this evening.  There will be two dances, one for elementary and the other for jr/sr high. The elementary family dance runs from 6:00pm -7:30pm. Students MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  The junior and senior high dance follows from 8:00pm until 10:00pm. Wristbands will be $5 at the door, with a family fee of $15 for a family of four or more. There will also be a concession stand with treats, drinks, glow sticks, and chips.

Our Social Justice Club is working on a campaign right now to gather food for our local food bank.  We are asking every student who can, to bring in at least 1 non-perishable food item to support those in need (baby formula and diapers are always needed too).  We will be collecting food in classrooms until November 3rd.

Good luck to our A Girls Volleyball team as they participate in the PWA Invitational tournament this weekend.  Feel free to pop by the Comp and cheer on our Saints!

Saturday Oct. 28- Fall Supper at the Immaculate Conception Church from 5:00-7:00pm.  All are invited, please contact the church for tickets and more information.

Tuesday Oct. 31- Halloween.  Students from our Social Justice Club will be leaving for WE Day in Calgary.  Students will return in the evening of November 1st.

-           Our Student Council will be hosting a Halloween Carnival for grades 6-12 from 11:00-12:00.  Students are encouraged to bring in food bank donations, and can enjoy centres such as the ever popular Cookie Walk and Buckets of Doom, as well as contests including the Pumpkin Carving Contest and Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest.

-           Elementary students may enjoy Halloween festivities in their own classes at the teacher’s direction during the afternoon, as well as a costume parade at 1:30pm.  We ask that all costumes be life affirming and keep with our Catholic faith.  Please do not send costumes that are gory, bloody or involve weapons.   Please also keep in mind that students should only bring 1 or 2 treats per day following Halloween.

Wednesday Nov. 1- All Saints Day

-           Grade 9 students will participate in “Take a Kid to Work day”

Thursday Nov. 2- All Souls Day

-SH Arts students to GPRC for the day.

Friday Nov. 3- Hot Dog Day- The much anticipated return of Hot Dog Days, thanks to our Booster group!  This year hot dog day will run on alternating weeks, and will require parent volunteer support.  Prices and more information will follow.  Please contact the office if you’re willing and able to help!

Our 2018 Grad class will be doing a bottle drive on Thursday November 2nd.  Please consider saving your recyclables for this hard working group!  Donations can be brought to the school, or contact the office to arrange pick up by the grad class.  Thanks!

Enjoy your weekend!
